Katadyn products in Classifieds

Just a heads-up for those of you with a mind toward preparedness.

I have just posted a classified ad here at GIM offering a variety of discounted Katadyn water filters, etc.

I got mine from my local sportsboxstore for 1.50 more than what you are selling this as a group buy. Plus I got to gawk at all the nice gear I do no need and will never use. If you are into making money you probably should focus on bigger ticket items where you can skim more off the top.

Re: Katadyn products in Classifieds

Zhuker, I don't normally do the group buys to make money. I was asked to offer these XRs at the best price possible on another forum. Thought I'd give you all here a shot at this price as well. It is under the MAP price and it includes shipping.

Obviously, if I am going to hugely undercut big-box stores, I'm going to need to subsidize everyone's purchases out of my pocket, which at times I have actually done, but cannot do as a matter of habit.

Let's face it, I'm a one-man gang doing my best to compete with mega-corporations who buy in mega volumes and who get prices I'll never get at the quantities I buy. But neither do I have the overhead they have, so I can normally at least play in the same ballpark on most products. What do you get buying from me? You get personal service. You have the convenience of not having to go out and shop and find the item if you don't feel like it or you don't have the needed retail outlet in your area. AND ... you get the small satisfaction of knowing you are not putting your pennies into some fat shareholder's pocket who is continuously looking to slice some more meat out of the workers' hides.

Those who do business with me are normally repeat customers because they know me and they get something extra out of the transaction--whatever that may be for them. Bigger picture, if I stay busy and keep this Crisis Preparedness business in the black, I can continue to occasionally offer very unique MONSTER deals that aren't available to anyone anywhere. And I am always there for my customers when their real needs come up and no one else is willing or able to help out.

Further, when I bring in some $$$ here, it translates into donations to GIM.

I believe that last time the hat was passed GKhan and crew had to turn back donations because they had so many offers.

Not saying that you shouldn't peddle you wares here (you usually have good stuff) but the above statement is somewhat of falicy.

Haven't sold a whole lot of stuff here at GIM, but the one good donation I made a while back was received and accepted gratefully. It's part of what I do at other forums as well--usually to a substantial level when we're on a roll.

Gotta read carefully ... my list prices in my store are NOT the prices GIMers pay. You contact me and you get significant discounts ... across the board.

Sometimes I have to wonder why I bother.

FYI, some of my suppliers require that my LIST prices adhere to a MAP agreement. Katadyn is one of those suppliers. My listed Katadyn prices are all at the required Minimum Advertised Price (required of legitimate Katadyn dealers). That does not preclude me from offering special private discounted pricing.

Sorry you are getting such a hard time here Vic. As far as I'm concerned if people don't like your offers they should put you on ignore and let the rest of us consider each offer on its own merit. Someday they may wish they had a relationship with small retailers when the big box guys (who can under cut the small guy) don't have any inventory to sell to the masses. Just my .02. Don't be too discouraged, there are always a few nuts in the box of cracker jacks - me I prefer to consider myself the prize:aetsch:

Just kidding:wink:

JC had the best price on a Maxpedition jumbo versapack. I also got a NukAlert from him in a group buy for $103. You're not going to beat that price. I can't believe you guys ignore the group buys....

What I appreciate about JC is that he is doing something positive to help people get better prepared.

Not only the better prices, but the information. On the Mt House he went out of his way to point out that most suppliers overestimate how long a package deal would really supply enough calories for.

I always laugh about things like '3 man' tents. You better be really good friends or in danger of dying of cold to want to spend the night packed that close. LOL Mt House 'so many days' estimates are somewhat like that. If you need to lose a few pounds that might be the number of days.

GIMers are a suspicious bunch. I hope you don't take it personally, JC. After all, we stopped trusting the greenback....

Re: Katadyn products in Classifieds

Hidy all,

I bought my Katadyn before Y2K and have only 'practice' used it a time or two. Anyone know if Katadyn is making filters again for their units? I checked online, I think about 2001, and got the message that they had temporarily quit making replacement filters for the unit I have. Something to do with the carbon they had been using, if memory serves (and sometimes it doesn't). TIA.

Also, at that time I was googling re filters, etc and came across a website run by what seemed to be former military spec ops people. I read on this website that you still need the 'water purification tabs', because the filters will not remove cryptosporidium. The filters apparently are effective against everything else, but not cryptosporidium. I've got both now.....in addition to distilled water, colloidal silver, which I've used and liked for four years or so now.

Another thing I've been using for only a few months is 'food grade' hydrogen peroxide, H2O2. This is 35% H2O2, and MUST (YES, I'M YELLING HERE, BECAUSE THIS STUFF IS DANGEROUS, IF YOU MISHANDLE IT!) BE HANDLED WITH CARE! It is a serious oxidizer and is poisonous to human tissues at this strength. DON'T DRINK IT AT FULL STRENGTH, OR HANDLE IT AT FULL STRENGTH, WITHOUT PROTECTION!! I use heavy leather welder's gloves and safety goggles, whenever I pour from the big bottle into the eye-dropper bottle. I rather like it for medicinal purposes, but you have to dilute it heavily before using. The recipe I have calls for a MAXIMUM of EIGHT DROPS to EIGHT OUNCES of, preferably, distilled water. I currently use HALF that amount, one drop to two ounces of water. You have to work slowly up to the max, if that's what you want. Personally, I didn't like the taste, so I dropped back to half the max. Add a little lime juice concentrate, sometimes a dab of Vitamin C powder (ascorbic acid), even though if you use too much of that, you may give yourself diarrhea, until your systemic levels drop back down. [BTW, I have found both Vit C powder and coffee to be an excellent 'natural' laxative, for those 'difficult days'.] [also, both colloidal silver 'and' hydrogen peroxide are reputed to kill every bacteria/virus/etc known to man. fwiw.

Also, I've bought several homeopathic remedies, supposedly helpful against such things as anthrax and hemorrhagic fevers (read, like EBOLA), and a couple of other things. Several in the past couple of months, I've tried one against flu symptoms I felt coming on---pressure/stuffiness in the nose and nasopharynx, and slight sore throat. Next morning, I was fine. Take it fwiw.

I've prepared, at least somewhat, for 'biowarfare' BS, for there ARE NO vaccines against most of this stuff.

I've even seen online at the Osteopath's website that some studies published in their Journal after the 1918 Flu 'epidemic/pandemic' (the H1N1 virus), that those folks under Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT)/"spinal adjustments", which also includes Chiropractors (who do almost all SMT these days; most DO's are now 'drugs and surgery' 'doctors', like MDs), the mortality rate from 1918 Flu (now called H1N1) was below 1%....yes, that is 1%, whereas for MDs, using whatever they used at the time, the rate was much higher, in the 40% to 50% range, I 'think'. Look up the sources to be sure. [just another head's up: H5N1, the current 'bird flu' culprit, is not much of a killer against humans....YET. Buuuut, folks who died of H1N1 back when have been dug up and H1N1 has been re-constituted in the lab. Further, that the lethal gene sequences of H1N1 have been spliced into H5N1....in the lab only, from what I've seen so far. IF that H5N1/H1N1 combination is 'weaponized' and/or released, da Boyz will have a highly aggressive (from the H5N1) 'proven' (from the H1N1) killer of a lot of 'useless eaters', and 'no one' except the 'experts' will have a clue. And, as you know from the Stalin Principle: 'No man, no problem'.

These are merely some of the things I've thought about, researched, and purchased, 'just in case'.

This has been a head's up, for information purposes only. As they say on the PM forums, "Do your own due diligence."

Best to all,

d
